Youth Sailing Program Intern/Camp Coordinator   

Position Summary

The Ocean City Yacht Club of Ocean City, New Jersey is looking for a Youth Sailing Program Intern to manage the administrative functions of the youth sailing program and to assist both Directors and perform administrative duties for two sessions of a one-week on-land program for youth ages 5-7 years old.  The position is a seasonal contract that runs from mid-June 2024 through mid-August.  The successful applicant should be comfortable around the water.  Sailing and or power boating experience is desirable, but not required.  Opportunities to try sailing and power boating and add educational and administrative skills to resume.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain attendance records, files of sailor performance, medical and family contact information, and helping to implement a sailing app to track children’s progress.
  • Typing up the enewsletter, making copies, online ordering, answering emails, will be typical daily activities.
  • Maintain records of all instructors’ certifications, clearances, and schedule any training required such as first aid, CPR.
  • Monitor weather during classes through weather websites and advise instructors of changing conditions.
  • Track and handle all payroll for sailing instructors.
  • Act as the receptionist for the Jr. Sailing Program: answer all phone calls and emails addressed to the Youth Sailing Program in consultation with the directors as necessary, greeting visitors to the club building and providing information on the program to interested parents

Minnows Camp Coordinator Program Responsibilities

Organize and be responsible for running the Minnows program, including implementing the five-day program twice during the summer season, assessing and purchasing supplies, signing up volunteers who will teach the marine biology, sailing, and powerboating lessons, registration, and communication with parents.  The curriculum for this program and the list of volunteers is established and will be provided to the successful applicant. 

Requirements

      An applicant must be flexible in one’s approach and thrive in a multi-tasking environment.   Previous experience working in a camp setting or school is desirable but not required.   First aid, CPR, and AED certification desired, if not certified will reimburse costs to become certified.  Background checks will be required.
